You're back inland, the constable says
So I hung some words on a barbed wire fence.
We got the letter, came through Vancouver.
Such a long way round for such a little thing.
It was signed in court, with a photograph,
Said they'll never forget what your father did.
Passed it around the usual crowd,
Raised a glass to the ghost of him.
Sang old songs as we were kicking out,
Left it stuck behind the bar with a drawing pin.
We have moved to some winter quarters
This old place on division street.
And we talk about healing and we talk about pain
We talk about the little things that keep us sane.
These wooden floors and timber walls
Carved these stories in themselves.
We make our echoes in these shadows
And the bottles cycle through the shelves.
Fill her up, to the brim
Come on son we'll see this through.
Fill her up, let nothing else in,
No-one knows what we can do.
There's a scrap of old cloth on a barbed wire fence.
So we wrote some words to make amends.

Shadowbones

14th October 1985, Petersen died,
We dug a grave in the last spot by the waterside.
You can't pay your way out of it this time.
16 years from Istanbul to Copenhagen,
When you're trying to stay low and off the radar,
And I remember every bleeding step of the way.
These joints are older than they should be.
Our time is not what yours has been.
It's true we never saw what you could see.
But it was always the end you were hiding.
Old ghosts and shadow bones
Old ghosts and shadow bones
Old ghosts and shadow bones
Are coming to carry you home
We fell hard into the broken hands of strangers,
Tumbling down a long beaten path of failures,
And somewhere I gave up my fear along the way.
These clothes they're not mine, they don't fit me.
This life isn't ours but it could have been
This face you won't know when you do see.
That there's an end to this lie you've been hiding.
Old ghosts and shadow bones
Old ghosts and shadow bones
Old ghosts and shadow bones
Old ghosts and shadow bones
Old ghosts and shadow bones
Old ghosts and shadow bones
Are coming to carry you home
I believe I believe I believe this too shall pass.

Northshoremen

Catching old tales, before the light goes dim. I saved a life today, with all the things I did
Watching old wars play out on the screens, sink at least a couple of beers before the good guys win.
I know that old tune, but I couldn't tell you what, what I know is a shorter list than what I forgot.
See the spray paint signs behind the parking lot, there stands a man I could have been but I am not.
Winter is coming in
And I see your shirt is wearing thin
These old songs, they don't sound like they did.
And there's a message there that was never clearer hid.
We are northshoremen
This is our brotherhood
We are northshoremen
The sea is in our blood
We are northshoremen
And we are not yet done.
We're tired of holding on
For a best that's yet to come
Winter is coming in, And I see your shirt is wearing thin.
Catching old tales, before the light goes dim. I saved a life today, with all the things I did
We are northshoremen
This is our brotherhood
We are northshoremen
The sea is in our blood
We are northshoremen
And we are not yet done.
We're tired of holding on
For a best that's yet to come
We are northshoremen, this is our brotherhood.
We are northshoremen, the sea is in our blood.

Building for the Flood

There are times it will do no good
There are times it will do nothing at all
There are times you know you should
There are times you know you might just save us all
Building for the flood
Building for the flood
It falls to you some kind of order
It falls to you some hidden warden
It falls to you to extoll the souls of strangers
It falls to you, we are blind to this danger
Building for the flood
Building for the flood
You can let your spirit pass
You can lay yourself on some deserving grass
You can let it out, let it go,
Let it breathe, let it rot, let it feed some future blood
Building for the flood
Building for the flood

Denmark Street

We shine bright in reflection
All of this, a sign of affection
Hidden hands, subtle corrections
So we shine bright in reflection
There's a headline in the paper says it's right.
The numbers are screaming out of sight.
There is a fire in Denmark street tonight.
But I'm ok, I'm ok, I'm doing alright.
We shine bright in reflection
All of this, a sign of affection
Hidden hands, subtle corrections
So we shine bright in reflection
All of this, all your days
All your time, all just a search for grace
All of this, all your days
All your time, all just a search for grace
The banner says it’s time to stand and fight
The talking heads are talking from the heights
There is a riot in Denmark street tonight.
But I'm ok, I'm ok, I'm doing alright.
They're passing out the petrol bombs in Denmark Street tonight.
But I'm ok, I'm doing alright.
We shine bright in reflection
All of this, a sign of affection
Hidden hands, subtle corrections
So we shine bright in reflection
All of this, all your days
All your time, all just a search for grace
All of this, all your days
All your time, all just a search for grace
all just a search for grace
all just a search for grace
all just a search for grace

The Southern Wild York, UK
You may have heard that The Southern Wild were found hanging from a tree outside Warakurna, raw and untamed. Roped and
branded, they were boxed and shipped to northern England to be displayed to cheering crowds at freak shows and other music festivals.
You may know this not to be true. You may know that The Southern Wild sprang, full-grown, from the belly of a bison. You may wish to know more...
